Fire Near Palm Springs

Driving back from Las Vegas to Palm Springs this weekend, we drove through Yucca Valley not far from the fire that has been burning for several days now. The sunset caused by the fire was unfortunately quite spectacular. This picture was taken just outside of Palm Springs.

I'm at NECC (National Educational Computing Conference) in San Diego, and the opening keynote was by Dewitt Jones, who has been a National Geographic photographer for 20 years. He was quite inspirational, enough anyway to get me to roam around shooting for a couple hours near the convention center.
